Description of Old Police House
With glorious sea views over Mounts Bay and St Michaels Mount, this delightful, double fronted former police house offers spacious freshly renovated accommodation, set to one side of the coastal road in the charming town of Marazion. This ancient market town, believed to be Britain’s oldest chartered town is steeped in history and is best known as the gateway to St Michaels Mount with an excellent safe sandy beach and a good base to explore West Cornwall.
The wide front door opens to an entrance lobby with coat pegs and an inner door leads into the large central hallway with oak flooring and an adjacent cloakroom W.C. with hand basin. To one side is a light and airy sitting/dining room in soft colourings with comfortable lounge seating arranged before the ornamental granite fireplace, rugs on the solid oak floor and a refectory dining table next to patio doors.
On the opposite side of the hall, a bright and sunny kitchen/breakfast room has views of the rear garden from French Windows and a spacious well equipped kitchen with beautiful oak fitted units and a natural stone tiled floor. A railed sun deck at the rear spans the width of the house and can be accessed from both the dining and breakfast rooms.
Carpeted stairs lead up from the hall to the first floor landing and three pleasantly furnished bedrooms; a dual aspect double bedroom with a 5ft bed enjoying panoramic views of the bay and two twin bedded rooms on the inland side of the house. To complete the first floor accommodation, one of the best sea views is obtained from the spacious bathroom W.C. with hand basin, bath and walk-in shower.
A second flight of stairs continues up to the top floor and the master bedroom with a 5ft double set under the eaves and stunning views of the sea, coastline and St Michaels Mount from a dormer window. From the south facing railed sun deck, perfect for breakfast alfresco, half a dozen steps lead down to a securely enclosed, lawned garden with a gate leading to the driveway where there is space for two cars.
All the town’s amenities are within a short stroll including a selection of local shops, pubs, galleries and eating places as well as the golden sandy beaches and cobbled causeway leading to St Michael's Mount at low tide. The RSPB marshes nearby attract birdwatchers and Penzance, 3 miles, has a railway station, good shopping centre and ferry services to the Isles of Scilly. Praa Sands golf club is just a short drive, there are riding stables nearby and the immediate area is also a popular destination for windsurfing, kitesurfing and sailing.
