Description of Meldon Park
Meldon Park was built by the renowned architect John Dobson in 1832 for Isaac Cookson and remains the home of the Cookson family. Dobson is known to have walked the grounds for a month before choosing the imposing site of the house, on a ledge above the valley of the River Wansbeck, in the northern part of an old deer park. The accommodation available is a substantial self-contained wing with independent access. The spacious lounge boasts the comfort of a wood-burning stove ensuring a cosy welcome awaits guests regardless of the season and enjoys views across the stunning garden grounds. Meldon Park is a traditional rural estate positioned on the north bank of the River Wansbeck where fishing for brown trout can be arranged and commands magnificent views across the peaceful parkland and ancient woodlands. Guests are welcome to roam the 9 acres surrounding the main house or wander across the wider estate of some 3,500 acres if desired. Take time for a stroll up to the kitchen garden close by.
